Barents Pride

About us

Barents Pride is a Norwegian-Russian Pride that has been held in Kirkenes since 2017 by FRI, the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Queer World, Amnesty and "Equals" from Russia

At Barents Pride, just a short drive from the Russian border, Norwegian and Russian organizations and activists meet up to fight for equality and celebrate diversity and love. In 2023 from september 21 till 24 we will once again throw the world’s only Norwegian-Russian Pride, filled with activism, political and cultural events.

Equal Initiative Group

The initiative group "Equals" was formed in 2019 and brought together civil activists from the Barents region of Russia.

Our principles:

Openness. We accept different experiences and are ready to cooperate with any social movements fighting social stigma and discrimination in Russia. Our goal is to unite reasonable citizens of the Barents region in the fight against hatred and prejudice.

Acceptance. We advocate the adoption of different lifestyles, identities, preferences. Our goal is to help and support people facing stigma and discrimination in the Barents region of Russia. To do this, we are ready to help and advise those whose rights have been violated.

Education. We are engaged in civic education through lectures, festivals, regular publications on social networks. Our goal is to reduce the degree of hatred and intolerance towards vulnerable groups of people. To do this, we are honest about the difficulties faced by stigma bearers.

What we are doing:

  • We provide psychological and legal assistance

  • We participate in the organization of the festivals: Barents Pride and DignityFest

  • We monitor media publications on human rights violations

  • We write analytical articles about the life of people in our region
